About Me
I live in Tucson, Arizona immersed in the breath-taking beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
We’re surrounded by four mountain ranges. To the north, the Santa Catalina Mountains. To the east, the Rincon Mountains. To the south, the Santa Rita Mountains. And to the west, the Tucson Mountains. Ecologically speaking it’s very diverse! Many of the plants and animals are unique to this area and Spring/Fall bird migration is not to be missed .
Unlike regions that boast of wild, vibrant colors of spring or fall, the colors here are subtle most of the time. It takes a special appreciation for the greens, pale yellows, pops of red with browns and grays sprinkled throughout. But, once you really see what’s here, it’s a magical place.
I’ve been an avid birder and hiker for many years. It’s only been more recently that I’ve started taking photos intent on being in Nature and capturing scenes in their most natural state. I love sitting quietly in a wash or at the foot of a mesquite tree waiting to see what will fly or flit nearby. I spend most of my camera time in and around the Tucson area. You’ll often find me at Sabino Canyon, Agua Caliente Park, Case Natural Resource Park, El Rio Open Space Preserve and any number of small parks and wilderness areas nestled in and around Tucson. I’ve had the pleasure of shooting in Colorado, California, New Mexico and a few international destinations – most notably (and my favorite), Costa Rica.
I often say that Nature is my church, Birds, the angels.
I also often say that my Border Collies rule my life, but that’s a whole other story for another website.
Here’s what I think goes into getting a great shot:
~Luck.
~What I’m willing to do to get the shot (lie in the dirt, bend, stretch, sit quietly for a very long time, etc).
~Respect/Passion/Knowledge for the subject matter.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you saw something you’ve never seen before! And if you see me out shooting…say “hi”!
